Week 15- The Elders of the Internet know who I am!?

Standard

One week to go! woohoo! So today I ran 13 miles straight in 1 hour and 57 minutes, a 9min/mi average, exactly what I was aiming for. So I’m feeling better going into the race, i’ve been quite nervous the past couple of days, so now I’m feeling better.  I’ve also been watching way too much IT Crowd, for the 10th time, because I love this show so much, and recommend it highly to anyone who’s friends with me, as you’re probably a bit nerdy yourself.

Thursday of course was Thanksgiving, the annual celebration on turkey, stuffing, gravy, and overeating in general.  The bf and I went down to Lynchburg to visit some of my family. It was a lot of fun and my grandmother got to serve the birthday cakes for me and my dad that she’s had in the freezer since September when she forgot to take them out last time we were there. I’ve clearly got a little bit of her habit for overdoing it as we’ve got Thanksgiving with the bf’s family tomorrow (5-6 people) and I’ve made 2 dozen pumpkin spice cupcakes, a chocolate pie, and leftover Toll House cookies from Ben’s work potluck.  So basically there’s 4 cupcakes, 2 slices of pie, and 3 cookies per person. Something tells me that’s too much.  But I didn’t want to not include pumpkin, as it is tradition (I hate the pie, but in cake form it’s amazing!), and the chocolate pie is Ben’s favorite dessert ever, so I had to have that too.  If only you could make a half pie and a half batch of cupcakes, scientists should work on that.

So after the 2 hours of running, hour of grocery shopping, and 2 hours of baking I think I may go collapse now, or have a glass of wine, or both. Excitingly enough the next post will be from Las Vegas the day before the race!

Week 14- 13 miles down, 2 weeks to go

Standard

I completed a 13 mile run yesterday! And i did in a 9:30 min/mi average, which is awesome, because it puts me right around 2 hours to complete the course in Vegas, which I’m hoping will go a little quicker due to adrenaline, warmer weather, and hopefully no 12 mph gusts blowing right at me as I go uphill like I dealt with yesterday.  Nature can be very mean sometimes!

I’ve got 10 runs scheduled before the race on the 4th.  Thank goodness this is coming to a close soon because my feet are starting to look really rough and I think they need some time to recuperate soon. After last weekends distance run I noticed one toe was really sore, the next day it had turned purple and hurt to the touch, so much so that I couldn’t wear my regular dress shoes to work, making me the weirdo in dress pants with chucks, as I don’t have many shoe options that aren’t boots or slip ons, neither of which was my toe going to accept. I got yet another pack of new socks today that are supposed to help keep your feet more comfortable and dry while I run, so hopefully that will help some with the blisters and calluses.

I looked up the race course map the other day and it looks like it’s pretty straight forward. We start down at the Mandalay Bay, which is at the far end of the new strip, and run all the way down to the Fremont Street area, aka the old strip, then come back again to end up at the Mandalay Bay.  This will be exceedingly convenient as that’s where I am staying, so I can finish the race, do the obligatory photo (which I’m sure I’ll look great in /s), and then go collapse for a few hours. The half-marathoners start at 5:30, so it’ll just be getting dark and the strip will be all lit up and gaudy and awesome as a distraction from the fact that I’m running 13.1 miles. It’s all very exciting and becoming very real now that it’s only a couple weeks away.

Shirt orders for those who donated $25 or more are going in tomorrow, so if you haven’t gotten back to me on what size/cut you want do it quickly or I won’t be able to send you one.  Order info can be set to teamholsab@gmail.com.

See you next week!
