Week 11 – Warewolf Bar Mitvah, Spooky Scary

Standard

Ok, so the title doesn’t really have anything to do with my post this week, except that I went to a Halloween party on Friday and the had it on their TV, I went as a hipster dude by the way, which consisted of my normal clothes, but with a pant leg rolled up, my hair up in a hat, and a giant fake handlebar moustache, wanna see? of course you do!

I was at said party because I went home to Charlottesville for half the weekend.  This time of year me and my girls from high school like to get together and go up to Carter Mountain Orchard for some apples in their various capacities; apple cider, apple cider donuts, caramel apple chunk cookies, apple butter, the possibilities are endless! I’m pretty sure this was year 11, making the first trip in 2000, now there are husbands and babies and jobs, but not nearly enough moustaches, obviously. I love this annual tradition, because we all live relatively far apart now, but it’s something we can still come together for. Also I get to go to Bodo’s bagels, which, if you’ve never been to C’ville before, you won’t understand, but they are amazingly good.

But I digress, the big news of the week is that I reached my fundraising goal! Yay! Thanks so much to everyone who donated, I hope to give you all hugs someday. It’s a huge load off my mind to know that everything from this point on is icing on the cake, and great gift for an amazing cause. I promise I will work as hard as I can to continue training for the half marathon, I did 9.85 miles today on my run, so I’m in good shape for the race, which is a little over a month away. I suppose that’s it for this week, remember is you donated $25 or more make sure to send an e-mail to teamholsab@gmail.com with preferred cut (men’s or ladies) and which size you prefer. If you donated $100 or more you are also entitled to a free bottle of wine, so specify your preferred  varietal in the e-mail.

On last thing, a big congrats so out to Sabrina Jess and David Johnson on their engagement, I wish the best to you two crazy kids!

Week 10: I ran 10 miles!

Standard

Ok, so I set out today originally with the goal of running 8 miles, then i figured, hey, why not try for a 15k, which is 9.3 miles. Then somewhere along the way I went, well, really, there’s this giant looming double digit figure in my future and why not just try and get there now so I don’t have to worry about it so much in the coming weeks. Because if there’s one thing I’m really good at, it’s worrying. So I decided to suck it up and aim for 10 miles, and I made it! Pretty solid time too, 9:10min/mile. I’ve found the prospect of having to post your stats online is a good motivator to not fall behind, especially when people are donating on the good faith that I actually finish this thing. I did have to do a double lap around some of the same streets, and I passed the same people a couple times, so I hope they don’t think I’m casing their houses or anything, Home Alone style.
So now, at week 10, I feel pretty good about all this, as of today I’m only $126 away from reaching my fundraising goal, and I’m only 3.1 miles away from reaching the distance goal.  I’ve got a little over 3 weeks to go on the fundraising, so I’m feeling good about that, and an additional 2.5 weeks of training time afterwards.
On an unrelated note I reached another goal today, I finished reading the ‘Earth’s Children’ book series (well, except for the last one, which I am told is crap, and not to bother with), those books are not tiny and I’m pretty sure I started reading them back in March/April, so yeah, quite the commitment.  I’ll be glad when this race is over to make any goals for myself for awhile, I think I’ll have accomplished enough to hold me over for a few months of aimlessness.

So to sum up, today rocks so far, now to go watch Blue Valentine and take it easy for a bit!
